Christmas Cards

This winter I had the pleasure of illustrating Grand Rapids law firm Kuiper Orlebeke PC's Christmas Card.  It was great working with them, and I think the end result turned out well.  Kuiper Orlebeke PC's clients will be receiving the cards this holiday season. I sure hope they enjoy!  Happy Holidays!

Little Loves

The past couple of days I have been busy working on a new illustration.  My most recents subjects, Charlie (the blue-green bird) and Penny (the yellow-green bird), have always proven to have a very dominant presence in our house, and live to be the focus of our attention.

Lovebirds as a species are fascinating and simply adorable.  They get their name from their habit of forming incredibly strong bonds with those in their close-knit "flock".  As their mama, I have become enamored not only by their beauty, but also by their sweet nature and curious, playful behavior.

I am very satisfied with the way this illustration turned out, and am excited to share my little loves with everyone.

Enjoy!

A Newly Painted Piece

This is a new illustration that I just finished today.  This piece, Chickens in the Shrubs, was inspired by my Grandma's free range chickens.  Whenever I go visit her I can always find them sitting in the bushes near by.

This illustration will be available on my Etsy shop and also at the Fulton Street Artisan Market. Hope to see you there!

Dream Gift

Recently I had the chance to do a commission for a very nice lady.  Her sister had been looking for paintings of seasonal pear trees for over 10 years at local galleries, and she could not find them anywhere.  She met me at the Avenue for the Arts Market, and was happy to see and hear that I could help.  I created custom pieces for her, and she is now going to give her sister her dream pieces as a gift.

Wedding Invitations

I recently designed and illustrated wedding invitations for a young couple that I have known for many years.  I designed the invitations to go along with the couple's theme for their wedding. They are having somewhat of a tree theme, so I incorporated the branches to go along with it, as well as being symbolic of their growing love.  The two love birds at the top of the branches are wearing a top hat and vail, representing the couple being wed.  The colors I used also match the color scheme they choose for their special event.  It is exciting to see them finally tie the not, and I cannot wait to see how their special day turns out.

If you or anyone you know is interested in having custom event invitations designed for a special event or announcement contact me and I will be happy to assist you.

Art in the Park

On June 23rd I attended the event Art in the Park in Kalamzoo, Michigan.  The event was held at Milham Park and it was beautiful.  Tall trees covered the area that the venders were placed, and rivers ran alongside them as well.  It was a nice day.

Avenue for the Arts -The Market

The Avenue for the Arts Market took place this year during June 9th on South Division Street. It celebrated creativity and community in Grand Rapids by showcasing local artists, businesses and entertainers.  This Market was the first one that I attended this summer, and it turned out to be a great event. Check out more of the Avenue for the Arts events at http://www.avenueforthearts.com/

BFA Exhibition

I recently graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.  For my BFA Exhibition I did a series of oil paintings and a series of gouche illustrations that depict the seasons in Michigan.  With all of my hard work along with two other illustrators, the show ended up turning out great and I couldn't be happier. Here are some images of my exhibit.
